Iran's presidential election is less than a month away and the list of prospective candidates has been released by the vetting body in a surprising and controversial move Ali Larijani the three-term former speaker of parliament and adviser to the the supreme leader has not qualified neither has a current vice president is haka Jahangir former two-term president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also stopped from participating it means the moderate and reformist blocks in Iran don't have prominent candidates to take part in the election some believe it's because powerful political forces in Iran want this man to be the next president Ibrahim is a current head of the judiciary who is backed by the country's conservative bloc in these qualifications made today a bitter and dark day for democracy and elections in Iran the guardian council's decision had several victims the first was the election process the second victim was the guardian the council itself an entity that must protect the constitution the third victim was Ricky people and society will believe all this happened to promote him to the presidency finally politicians such as Larijani Jahangir pages Kayan and Ahmadinejad became victims as well there's already been concern over a possible low vote to turn out and with a lack of competition it means the electorate have little to choose from and vote for manchester united I voted in the previous elections but decided never to vote again because I don't believe in the system anymore I expected Muhammad and the vice president to be qualified but it didn't happen I will vote this time around I used to vote I voted for Rohani fouryears ago but this time around I will not vote I would have written it for Ahmadinejad but he's not on the list but voices are speaking out against the decision a member of the guardian council and brother to Ali Larijani tweeted this statement he said the decision was indefensible and accused security services ofintervening in the vetting process raise released a video saying he had been speaking to authorities to ensure the election was competitive but only the supreme leader can issue a decree to allow bad candidates to stand but it's uncertain he will intervene now the moderates who favor 2015 nuclear deal and engaging with the west will have to either try and challenge the decision or back a different candidate the the discussion here in Iran is moving away from the presidential election to question the system itself there are also those that are now questioning Ibrahim raise and the political forces behind his bid to become Iran's next president Assad beg al-Jazeera thereon
